Thiruvananthapuram, May 15 – Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Oommen Chandy will be the new Chief Minister of Kerala as he has been elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. The decision of the newly elected 38 members of the Congress to the Kerala Legislative Assembly was unanimous. Senior Congress leaders Mohsina Kidwai and Madhusudan Mistry also attended the meeting as observers of the Congress High command. AICC General Secretary in-charge of Kerala Madhusudan Mistry announced the decision after getting consent from Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Contrary to to the reports created by certain media, the election of Oommen Chandy was smooth. Earlier KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala met the press and said that the reports mentioning he is in the race is absolutely baseless. “My opinion is that Oommen Chandy should be unanimously elected as the leader in the CLP meet. There will not be a contest for the post.” –He said. The new UDF Government will not be a Government for the party as it was when LDF was in power. UDF Government will be a Government for the people- Ramesh Chennithala said. He also said that he would not be part of the government but would concentrate on keeping the party strong and united in his capacity as the KPCC President.
Expressing confidence to run the new UDF Government smoothly, Oommen Chandy said that the thin majority of UDF in the Assembly will not create any problem for the new Government. We have to be vigilant. We have to improve the efficiency and we need to work unitedly –He said.
